Determine The Best Broadcast Market To Air In
Next, you’ll want to determine, what BROADCAST MARKET (City) you would like to have your broadcast air in. What broadcast market should you air in, is a question I don’t think pastors and evangelists really take enough time to evaluate and answer. Nevertheless it is top on my list of how to start a media ministry broadcast without bursting your budget. Many times I believe ministries take for granted that they have to START their broadcast in their local city. This is not true and a lot of times is not the most affordable option for small to medium sized ministries or even Evangelists located in major metropolitan television markets.
For instance, if your ministry is in Chicago, the 3rd largest market in the country behind New York and Los Angeles, and you have a congregation of 100 and a guaranteed monthly budget of $600.00 a month, it is DEFINITELY more feasible to air your broadcast in a near-by city of say South Bend, Indiana the 87th largest TV market in the country.
Or if you have that same size congregation in Nashville, Tennessee, the 30th largest TV market in the country your best bet may be to start your broadcast in Huntsville, Alabama the 84th largest market in the country, where you just might find an overnight slot between 1-4am for a couple hundred bucks per week on a local affiliate network ie: (ABC,NBC, CBS) as opposed to paying anywhere between $400-600.00 per week on a local Christian network that may reach less people.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am NOT saying don’t air on local Christian networks. But, what I am saying is DO YOUR RESEARCH before investing your ministry outreach dollars on ANY network. After all you may find with a little planning and budgeting, what you thought might cost more, may cost less in the right market.
I hope you have found this helpful. Check back again next week.
